The Fiestas del Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna are the city’s biggest annual celebration, built around the venerated 16th-century crucifix kept in its own royal sanctuary. The programme runs for about a week with a large funfair, concerts and craft markets, climaxing in a spectacular fireworks display on the night before the feast day (14 September). The old town is busy throughout — evenings around the feast day are the liveliest.
