Honouring the patron saint of fishermen, the Embarcación de la Virgen del Carmen is one of the most heartfelt festivals on the north coast. The Virgin’s image is paraded through the streets of Puerto de la Cruz and then carried aboard a decorated boat, escorted by a flotilla, for a blessing at sea. The harbour and old town are packed for the seaborne procession, usually held on the weekend around 16 July.
