For Corpus Christi, the streets of La Orotava’s old town are carpeted with elaborate alfombras made from flower petals, and the Plaza del Ayuntamiento is covered by an enormous picture made entirely of coloured volcanic sand from the Teide National Park. The works take days to build and are walked over during the procession, then swept away — see them on the morning of the main day. Come early, as the narrow streets get very busy.
