Declared of International Tourist Interest, the Carnival of Santa Cruz rivals Rio and fills the capital with costumed crowds, drum troupes and the election of the Carnival Queen. The headline event is the daytime Coso parade along Avenida de Anaga (around 17 February 2026), followed by the symbolic “Burial of the Sardine”. Book accommodation across the metropolitan area months ahead — hotels sell out and prices spike during carnival week.
