up to €600 for hiking the final cone without a permit

The cable car takes you to La Rambleta (3,555 m), but the final climb to the Pico del Teide summit (3,715 m) along the Telesforo Bravo (PNT-10) trail is gated by a timed permit. Since 19 January 2026 the permit carries an eco-fee (€15 for non-residents; €6 for other Canary Islanders; free for Tenerife residents and children under 14). The daily quota is 300 people and slots are released every Monday at 07:00 on a rolling 28-day window — they go within hours in summer.

If you didn’t get a slot: guided tours that include the summit permit are the reliable fallback — see the booking options below.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Teide permit the same as a cable-car ticket?
No — they are three separate things. The cable car is a paid ticket up to La Rambleta (≈3,555 m). Standing on the actual summit cone (Pico del Teide, 3,715 m) needs a separate, free timed permit from the national park, plus a €15 non-resident eco-fee introduced on 19 January 2026. Booking the cable car does not include the summit permit.
Can I climb Teide without a permit?
You can walk or ride the cable car up to La Rambleta and the viewpoints without a permit, but you cannot legally step onto the final summit cone (the Telesforo Bravo path) without a free timed permit. Climbing the cone without one risks a fine of up to €600. The alternative is a guided tour that already includes the permit.
How much does the Masca gorge really cost?
Far more than the "free trail" impression. Entry to the Barranco de Masca is a paid, booked slot, and you must add a mandatory return boat from the beach plus the connecting bus — in practice around €100+ per person all-in. It is booked on its own official platform, separate from Teide.
Will I be fined?
Yes, fines are enforced. Entering the Teide summit cone without a valid permit can cost up to €600. Carry your permit confirmation and an ID, and confirm the rules on the official site before you go — prices and limits change.
How do I get the free Teide summit permit?
Book it online at the Teide National Park reservation site (reservasparquesnacionales.es) for a specific date and time slot on the Telesforo Bravo trail. Daily places are limited and open well in advance, so popular dates go quickly. Since 19 January 2026 a €15 non-resident eco-fee is charged on top of the free permit.
What is the Teide eco-fee and who pays it?
It is a €15 per-person environmental fee for non-residents of the Canary Islands, in force since 19 January 2026, to access the summit cone. Canary Islands residents are exempt. It is separate from — and additional to — the free timed permit and any cable-car ticket.
Do I still need a permit if I take the cable car?
Yes. The cable car only takes you to La Rambleta. To continue onto the summit cone via the Telesforo Bravo path you still need the free timed permit (and the €15 eco-fee if you are a non-resident). Without it you must turn back at La Rambleta.
